Green Woodwork Courses in London

For all those with a yearning to get carving, the best way to get involved in the Abney Park workshop is to join an Introduction to green woodwork course. Once you’ve completed the course you can carry on working wood at the workshop every Thursday, for free, wood and tools provided.

For the first time in June we will be running an intensive version of our usual introduction course, Thursday 18th June to Sunday 21st June, 9 am to 4 pm.

Kolrosing is a traditional Scandinavian decorative technique where single incised cuts are made to create a pattern. Chip Carving is a style of carving in which a knife is used to remove small chips of wood in a single piece. Adam Hawker will be teaching this course on Friday 27th and Sunday 29th March.

Volunteer and help us develop our workshop

Thanks to ongoing support from the Worshipful Company of Turners, the workshop is now open to volunteers on the first Thursday and Friday of every month, to help us develop our workshop. Come and help us to develop our workshop space and learn to sharpen tools, build chopping blocks, saw horses, shave horses and pole lathes.

No previous experience necessary. Volunteering is open to over 18s who are physically and mentally able to participate. Please let us know if you plan to attend.
