The Turners’ Golf Club

The Turners’ Golf Club is open to freemen and liverymen of all standards. Our aim is to enter teams for some of the many inter-livery golf days which take place throughout the year, striving for a balance between inclusion and competitive success. As with all golfing societies, our club is social and friendly, a great way to meet other members away from the formality of structured company events.

While the inter-livery days are described in more detail below, the Club’s own events each year are the Spring Meeting, held in April (depending on Easter), and the Turners’ Golf Day, held in July. Both are open to all members, their spouses, families and guests. The former combines a 9 and 18 hole event, may be held at the Captain’s own club, with a decidedly casual format. The Golf Day will be at a different location each year, with special emphasis on welcoming new and occasional golfers as well as our competitive regulars. Golf is followed by a late lunch and prize-giving.

A list of all the events scheduled throughout the year is shown on the following link:

The rest of our calendar is made up as follows:

May:    Prince Arthur Cup – a traditional inter-livery competition held at Walton Heath GC (Surrey) featuring 36 holes in foursomes format, with a traditional golfing lunch between each round. We try to put up 2 teams of 2 (max. handicap 18), with entry fees supported by the Company.  A must for our better golfers.

Also in May each year is the Treloars School Golf Day, a charity event involving many livery companies and raising funds for the wonderful Treloars School.

June / July: Newson Smith Cup – a golf day for invited livery companies at The Drift GC. Newson Smith was a Past Master of the Turners Company.

June / July / September:  The City Livery Club Golf Society runs a Summer Meeting and an Autumn meeting at different clubs at which Turners are always welcome as guests (if they are not members themselves).

Oct:  The season ends with a choice between The Distillers Golf Day (at Tandridge GC) and the Dowgate Hill Challenge Cup – at Worplesdon GC (Surrey). Turners qualify because our offices used to be within Skinners’ Hall, which is on Dowgate Hill. The Distillers day has been favoured recently as it just needs teams of 4 players, while for the Dowgate, a team of 6 – 10 play individually in groups comprising other livery team members, with the top 6 players’ scores for each livery being added up to make the team score.

Do look out for the dates of each event and put them in your diary as soon as posted. Turners Golf events 2023

There are no separate subscriptions for the Turners Golf Club, but do let one of the organisers know if you are interested in playing so that you are put on our mailing list.  Occasional golfers without a club handicap are welcome at our own Golf Day and at some of the charity days, so don’t let a lack of recent practice put you off – we are a very welcoming section of the Company.
