These competitions are held by the Turners’ Company in conjunction with the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain.

Who can enter?

Members of the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain.

There are two classes: the SENIOR Competition and the RAY KEY Competition for those under 21 at the date of the competition. 

The late Ray Key BEM was President of the AWGB and held the Master in Turning award from the Worshipful Company of Turners.

Theme

For both the SENIOR and RAY KEY competitions, any turned piece with no restriction as to subject, size or style.

Details

There is no restriction on the number of entries by each competitor but the work must not have been entered in any other Company competition.  All work to be by the competitor except for commercially made components such as screws.  Carving, polychromatic assembly, marquetry, inlay and the like may be incorporated.  Any combination of legally sourced materials may be used.  Fractal burning may not be used.

Prizes

SENIOR Competition:  A gold medal and £250 for first, a silver medal and £175 for second, and a Bronze Medal and £100 for third.

RAY KEY Competition: The AWGB Geoff Cox Youth Trophy and £150 for first, a Silver Medal and £100 for second, and a Bronze Medal and £50 for third.

No competitor will receive more than one prize, though in both competitions commercial sponsors may also award vouchers.

These are held in conjunction with the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain.

Judging is on Monday 26th November (4pm to 6pm).

Public viewing is at the View, Love, Buy show on Tuesday 27th November (10am to 4pm).
