HMS Sultan welcomed representatives from their Affiliated organisations to share opportunities and discuss developments in engineering and awards.
Celebrating these relationships, visitors came from a variety of organisations including Livery Companies, professional engineering institutes, STEM ambassadors, local community organisations and educational establishments.
HMS Sultan enjoys close working relationships with the Worshipful Companies of Fuellers, Founders, Plumbers, Shipwrights, Blacksmiths, Turners and Engineers, professional organisations that offer accreditation to HMS Sultan courses: IMarEST, IMechE, The IET, RAeS and Nuclear Institute, and WISE.
The affiliates visited the Marine Engineering Training Group and the Defence College of Technical Training’s Royal Naval Air Engineering & Survival Equipment School (RNAESS) to see how engineers and technicians are taught to operate, maintain, diagnose, and repair the latest in cutting-edge military technology. In addition, HMS Sultans own Super Steam Sentinel Lorry provided local tours.
HMS Sultan enjoys affiliations with a number of Livery Companies based in the City of London. These Companies, some of which date back to the Middle Ages, were originally developed as regulators for their trades and now act primarily as charitable organisations, sponsoring prizes that are routinely awarded to HMS Sultan’s trainee engineers.
Several prizes and awards made during the day included those sponsored by the Fuellers, Turners, and IMechE.
Lieutenant Commander Victoria Rees-Hughes who organised the visit said: “This year’s theme celebrates the success and opportunities in engineering and is also a call to action for the limitless possibilities in engineering, looking at where we can support Affiliates and Affiliates can support us. Using this theme for Affiliates Day, HMS Sultan wishes to demonstrate the developments we are undertaking to offer additional personal development and support the career courses of the engineers at Sultan, both service and civilian, and spark innovation because together we are stronger.”
