The Lady Gertrude Crawford, Fred Howe and H. E. Twentyman competitions for ornamental turning

These three competitions are held in conjunction with the Society of Ornamental Turners.

They are in honour of three great exponents and patrons of ornamental turning.

Who can enter?

Members of the Society of Ornamental Turners.

Theme

There is no restriction on theme, style or size.

Lady Gertrude Crawford competition:  a significant proportion of the work to be by conventional ornamental turning.  All forms of rose turning are excluded.

Fred Howe competition:  a significant proportion of the work to be by rose turning or a combination of both ornamental and rose turning.

H.E. Twentyman competition: predominantly plain form, not necessarily of circular section, with the addition of a discrete element of ornamental using either or both conventional ornamental turning and rose turning techniques.

Details

All work to be by the competitor except for commercially made components such as screws.  Carving, polychromatic assembly, marquetry, inlay and the like may be incorporated.  Any combination of legally sourced materials may be used.  Fractal burning may not be used.

There is no restriction on the number of entries by each competitor but the work must not have been entered in any other Company competition.

Prizes

A prize of £200 and a Company Gold Medal for the winners of the Lady Crawford competition and the Fred Howe competitions.  A prize of £100 and a Company Silver Medal for the winner of the H.E. Twentyman competition.

Judging is on Monday 26th November (4pm to 6pm).

Public viewing is at the View, Love, Buy show on Tuesday 27th November (10am to 4pm).
