Proclamation of Royal Accession

The Turners Company was represented by Upper Warden Nigel Luson, Renter Warden Christopher Scott and Clerk Niall Macnaughton at the formal Proclamation of Accession of King Charles III from the steps of the Royal Exchange in the City.

A group of Masters, Wardens and Clerks were given a privileged position to watch the Lord Mayor and civic signatories formally process between the ranks of the Company of Pikemen and Musketeers to the ceremonial fanfare from the band of the Grenadier Guards.

After the proclamation read by the City Herald, all present joined voices in the restyled National Anthem and responded to the Lord Mayor’s call for 3 cheers for the new King. It was of course just a part of the range of ceremonies taking place to mark the Accession, but redolent with tradition and a palpable sense of civic pride and duty at ushering in a new royal era.
