The Bert Marsh Competitions for Company Members and Turning Certificate Holders 2023
These competitions are in memory of Bert Marsh who helped organise past competitions and encouraged Company members to get turning and to take part. Certificate holders are also encouraged to enter their special category.
Who can enter?
There are TWO categories. Any Freeman or Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Turners who is an amateur turner may enter the Bert Marsh Company category.
Any holder of the Company Certificate in Turning may enter the Bert Marsh Company Certificate category.
Theme
Any piece of work, with no restriction as to subject, size or style.
Details
Pieces should not have been entered in any other Company competition. Pieces entered for the Company Certificate category should have been created since your certificate was awarded.
Any combination of legally sourced materials may be used. All work to be created by the competitor except for commercially made components such as screws. The piece must be primarily turned on a lathe, there are no restrictions on embellishment however fractal burning may not be used.
Competitors may enter up to two pieces in each category, none of which should have been entered in any other Company competition.
Piece(s) may be offered for sale at the exhibition.
Prizes
For the Company category: a trophy and a bottle of wine.
For the Company Certificate category: First prize £500 and a trophy, second prize £250, third prize £100.
No competitor will be awarded more than one prize in any one category.
