The Master’s Exhibition
New for 2023, and by invitation only, The Master’s Exhibition of woodturning will be shown alongside our customary biennial competitions, Woodturning Connect, in the City of London.
This exhibition aspires to showcase the finest woodturning in the UK, and we have 23 leading artists providing for the first time, for one day only, an exciting and diverse display of turned artwork, using sustainable or reclaimed British timber.
The theme for this year is Coronation, which the artist will interpret in any manner, being respectful of the Worshipful Company of Turners’ core values and long-established Royal Charter. Some of the artists may choose to offer their work for sale.
While this category is not competitive, the works will be viewed by a panel including Nick Humphrey, Curator Furniture and Woodwork V&A, and Laura Chase, Curator, Decorative Art and Sculpture V&A, both at the Victoria & Albert Museum, and they will be making a ‘Choice Award’ before the exhibition opens to the public. The public will then get their chance to make their own ‘Choice Award’ by way of a running tally during the show.
The 23 leading artists are (in alphabetical order):
Barnaby Ash, Jason Breach, Sally Burnett, Jack Darach, Nick Edwards, Margaret Garrard, Robert George, Nathanael Griffiths, Mick Hanbury, Reg Hawthorne, Jay Heryet, Louise Hibbert, Simon Hope, Greg Kent, Carlyn Lindsay, Gerry Marlow, Andy Mason, Stuart Mortimer, Joey Richardson, Mark Sanger, Arturo Soto, Roy Weare, Maggie Wright.
