Who can enter?

Any turner normally resident in the United Kingdom.

Theme: The 100th Anniversary of the Armistice

The interpretation of this theme is left to the turner.

Entrants are asked to create works which reflect their personal style, techniques and response to the 1918 Armistice and the 100th anniversary on 11th November 2018.

Entries must be new, original and specially created for the Competition.

So we can display all the entries, pieces should generally measure less than 10″ x 10″ x 10″, though if it needs to be slightly larger in one direction, it will be accepted.  They must be primarily created on a lathe, and can include any legally sourced material.

All work to be by the competitor except for commercially made components such as screws.

Other production or decorative techniques, such as carving, piercing or inlay can be used. Fractal burning techniques may not be used.

Given the theme, reference to war may be used, but modestly please. The Company reserves the right not to display any piece that the judges believe inappropriate.

There is no restriction on the number of entries by each competitor, but the work must not have been entered in any other Company competition.

The monetary prizes are £1,250 for first, £500 for second and £250 for third.  Only one prize per competitor will be awarded.

The winning entry will remain the property of the Worshipful Company of Turners.

Commercial sponsors of the Competitions may also offer monetary awards or vouchers.

Entries from school students are encouraged and there is a special prize – please mark on the form that you are still at school.
