Who can enter?

Any turner normally resident in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.

Theme

MUSIC

Detail

The current Master has a particular interest in music, and has chosen this subject as the theme for the Master’s Open Competition.  The interpretation is left to the turner.  The piece must be new, original and specially created for the Competition.  The judges will look primarily at the quality of the turning and choice of materials, but also at the interpretation of the subject. One of the judges will be the Master of the Worshipful Company of Musicians.  Entries must be primarily created on a lathe, and can include any legally sourced material.   All work to be by the competitor except for commercially made components such as screws.  Other production or decorative techniques, such as carving, piercing or inlay can be used.   Fractal burning techniques may not be used.

There is no restriction on the number of entries by each competitor but the work must not have been entered in any other Company competition.

Prizes

The monetary prizes are £1,250 for first, £500 for second and £250 for third.  Only one prize per competitor will be awarded.  Commercial sponsors of the Competitions may also offer monetary awards or vouchers.  Entries from school students are encouraged and there is a special prize – please mark on the form that you are still at school.

The winning entry will remain the property of the Worshipful Company of Turners.
