Wizardry in Wood 2025

Nathanael Griffiths is a 20-year-old autistic turner from Chester. He started woodturning at school aged 13 and became fascinated with segmented turning. At 15 he won the ‘Young Turner’ category of the British Woodturner of the Year competition organised by the Guild of Master Craftsmen. He went on to have pieces selected for display at both the 2020 and 2021 Royal Academy of Arts, Young Artists’ Summer Shows, and was runner-up in the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain’s Under 21 Ray Key competition at the Worshipful Company of Turners’ ‘Wizardry in Wood’ exhibition in 2021. In 2022 he was awarded a bursary from the Worshipful Company and is also part of the ‘Emerging Turners’ programme supported by the Worshipful Company.

In 2023 Nathanael was awarded the V&A Choice for his piece, ‘Continuity Rings’ at Woodturning Connect 2023.
