The annual Prince Arthur Cup inter-livery golf competition was held at Walton Heath GC on Thursday 15th May. Played in surprisingly cold and windy conditions, the Turners team of 4 (2 pairs) joined 35 other livery companies battling course and conditions. Our leading pair of Phil Hogan and Jonathan Biggs (pictured, and late substitute for an injured Les Thorne) returned the best team score over both courses to secure the overall 1st place pair’s prize – thought to be the best ever result by a Turners team (we have been entering the competition, on and off, since 1936).
It was an honour that the Master, Christopher Scott, was able to join us at lunch and see both teams off for the start of their second round. The overall team prize for the Cup was won by Merchant Taylors and presented by the Master Coachmakers, whose Company won the very first Prince Arthur Cup in 1927.
All the Turners’ players (the above-mentioned plus Captain Nigel Luson and Bill O’Leary) would like to place on record their appreciation for the Company’s continued sponsorship of their entry into this prestigious event, looking forward to its centenary year in 2027.
