Miriam Jones spends her bursary award

Bursary award winner Miriam Jones recently used some of her award to spend a couple of days with professional turner Les Symonds. The training began with tool sharpening, which considerably improved the quality of finish on Miriam’s work. Miriam wanted to develop her range of bowls and to include larger pieces, so Les then gave her the largest piece of wood she had ever worked on. The timber was spalted and a little soft, so good tool control was essential. Miriam’s confidence increased and the day ended with a splendid big bowl.

Miriam plans to practice her new found skills, and then return for further training with Les in a few months time.
