Orchard Workshop staff and students were recently honoured to receive a visit from the Master of the Turners’ Company, Nicholas Somers. He presented the Certificate in Woodturning to students who had completed the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain (AWGB) turning course.

Orchard Workshop is a community workshop in Kingswood, near Bristol. In 2013 the Turners’ Company provided two high quality lathes to the Workshop to support its woodturning courses and training.

Janet Parsons MBE, founder and co-ordinator of Orchard Workshop, gave Nicholas Somers a tour of the Workshop, where courses are provided across a wide range of arts and crafts including jewellery making and stained glass. There are also courses tailored for students (from 18 to 80+) with special needs.

Mary Ashton, a member of the Register of Professional Turners (RPT) is the woodwork and woodturning tutor at Orchard Workshop. She provided the training for the Certificate in Woodturning to the 13 students who were assessed by Peter Bradwick.

The Master of the Turners’ Company presented Certificates to each of the students and praised their achievements in woodturning.
