Turners Company Golf Day

The Company golf day was held on Thursday 6th July at Woodcote Park Golf Club, Coulsdon Surrey.

This year we had a turnout of 16 Liverymen and guests all challenging for prizes.  The assembled group trying for nearest the pin on the par 3, 8th and 13th holes.   The Company members competing for the Silver Trophy and an excellent turned bowl arranged by Mark Baker and crafted by Andy Coates. The guests competing for a substantial platter turned by Past Master Peter Ellis.

After being fortified by coffee and bacon rolls, Peter Ellis led off the tournament at 10.00.

The weather was magnificent, the course well presented with fast greens. From the reports from the groups coming off the 18th, the greens had dented a number of score cards.  The nearest the pin on the 8th hole was won by Pete Godding’s guest, Phil Hogan and by our own Lionel Anderson on the 13th hole. For the main prizes, the scoring revealed two clear winners. The winner of the Company trophy was Peter Ellis with Nigel Luson getting the better of Pete Godding on the count back on the last 9 holes for second place.  The guest prize went to Marilyn Luson with Dick Strattan,  the other guest of Pete Godding coming in second.

The worthy winners thanked the Club, the staff not forgetting the chef who had provided an excellent cold buffet for lunch.

A note about next year…….

Any recently admitted freeman or liveryman who plays golf and would like to take part in the various inter-livery team competitions that we enter should drop a line to the golf captain Peter Godding (p.godding@btinternet.com) to be added to the circulation list. The golf days are all very friendly affairs and we can usually enter as many teams as we have players for.

The 2018 golf day will be held at Woodcote Park on Thursday, 5th July 2018.
