The Worshipful Company of Turners

Supporting the Craft, City and Charity for over four hundred years

The golf season to date has been very successful for the Company.

The Company golf day was held on a glorious June day at Woodcote Park Golf Club with Bill O’Leary putting in an impressive performance to take first place and a beautifully turned bowl by Mark Baker.

Turners' Golf Society

On  4th July we entered two teams for the Newson Smith. The Turners team B consisting of David Batchelor, Glenn Brown and Peter & Janet Godding taking first place with 90 points. On the 6th Hole Peter had a gross eagle and Glenn a par, which was the platform for their winning performance. The Turners team A came in third place. A fantastic all round performance by the Company. Little did we know at the time, more was to come.

On Thursday 31 July The Turners Company A and B teams competed in the Ray Jeffs Cup at Hartney Whitney Golf Club. The competition is in support of the wonderful charitable work of the D of E.

The Turners A team of Peter Ellis, Rob Lucas, Bill O’Leary and Nigel Luson won the Ray Jeffs Cup with an outstanding 99 points, narrowly beating the World Traders on 97 and the Insurers A team on 93. The individual winner was Bill O’Leary with an outstanding 42 points, which is his best score this year at 6 under his handicap of 10 and Peter Ellis, with 38 points, lost the second place on count-back.

In addition to a magnificent cup the team has been invited to join other regional winners at the D of E national final, to be held on the magnificent Brabazon course at The Belfry on 22 October. With two prestigious wins in a row our reputation within City Livery Golf has grown and the Turners Company golf teams are the teams to beat if you want success.

We now look forward to making it three in a row when we participate in the College Hill tournament at Worpleston Golf Club in October. Our chances are excellent as we were past winners in 2012.
