The biennial competitions are the largest in Europe and attract a wide range of entries from both amateur and professional UK woodturners.
The competitions are organised by the Turners’ Company with the:

Association of Pole Lathe Turners and Greenwood Workers (APTGW)
Looking back at the … 2023, 2021, 2018, 2016 & 2014 Competitions
To differentiate between the biennial competitions and Wizardry in Wood, the competitions have been rebranded as ‘Woodturning Connect’. For the first time, there was a Master’s Invitation only Exhibition category showcasing the finest woodturning in the UK, and visited by V&A curators who made a ‘choice award’. The theme for this category was ‘Coronation‘.
The theme of the Master’s Open Competition in 2021 was Music.
The theme of the Master’s Open Competition in 2018 commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Armistice.
2016 Competitions
The theme of the Master’s Open Competition in 2016 commemorated the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London.
2014 Competitions
The theme of the Master’s Open Competition in 2014 was ‘The Square Mile’s energy to transform lives‘ in honour of Honorary Liveryman Dame Alderman Fiona Woolf being elected Lord Mayor of the City of London.
