The Worshipful Company of Turners

Supporting the Craft, City and Charity for over four hundred years

Matt Underwood, Yeoman of the Turners’ Company

After finishing university in 2021 I decided to try turning full time based from my home workshop in Worcester. My bread-and-butter work has been turning magic wands and wooden fruit which I have been selling through Etsy for the last 5 years.
I produce various woodturning videos on YouTube, as well as experimenting with a variety of delicate turned flowers. I try to source all my wood straight from the tree and have been building a stock of processed timber.
I made a rugby ball urn for my late Dad in January 2021 and have since produced a few more along with a YouTube video. They’re designed with CAD software and I have to be very precise and accurate making them to ensure they are perfect. I have more segmented designs planned and also have some rough turned ‘one-piece’ balls currently drying.
I really enjoy making them as they combine two of my passions and I’m hoping to make rugby ball urns my main business in 2023.
